Samuel Myatt
The Unreasonable Palace
Set in the heart of Istanbul, the proposal imagines a scenario where Ottoman Royalty is restored, providing a public face for sweeping changes to the Turkish Constitution. The construction of a Palace explores power in architecture, representation and subversion. This situation asks if architecture can be used to satirically critique the rise of uber-nationalism, by examining a speculative future around the re-establishment of the Ottoman empire, whilst questioning the role of the architect in contemporary placemaking.
